How a product earns its score

The same four steps run for every product, in every category. Nothing skips the queue and no brand sees the score before you do.

Step 1

We buy it

Every product is bought at full price from a normal shop. We turn down free samples, loans and press units.

Step 2

We use it

Each product gets at least three weeks of real use, run against its closest rivals on the same days.

Step 3

We check the owners

We read reviews from confirmed buyers and look for the same complaint showing up again and again.

Step 4

We score and publish

Scores are set against a fixed sheet, then rechecked monthly. When something better lands, the ranking changes.

If a brand ever gets in touch about a score, we say the same thing every time: send us a better product.

We recheck every category monthly and retest the top three at least twice a year. If a winner gets worse, or a new product beats it, the ranking changes that month.
